Over the years Loveny has had a number of Directors of Music. One in particular had a major effect on the choir. Nick Hart joined the embryo Loveny as a 1st.Tenor and his talents soon became obvious, when the opportunity arose he became Director of Music. Nick remained in this position for 17 years and under his guidance the choir grew both in reputation and numerically and on three occasions were Cornish Champions.

Loveny currently has thirty four members and is an exciting choir both to belong to and to listen to. It has built up an enviable reputation, not only throughout Devon and Cornwall but in places far afield such as Wales, Brittany, Germany, Holland, Malta, and the Czech Republic. The choir has a repertoire that is wide and varied , in addition to standard male voice choir music it includes songs that are humorous, songs that written exclusively for Loveny and songs from around he world.

Accompanist:
The choir is indeed fortunate to have such a loyal and talented musician for our resident accompanist as Sarah Scott. Sarah's talents are in great demand in and she is accompanist to four other choral groups within a seven mile radius of her home town Liskeard.

The choir was formed by Alan Pascoe in the autumn of 1971. The idea was born when the aircraft carrier HMS Bulwark visited North Borneo in 1963 and Alan was inspired by the singing of Cornishmen of all ranks at a party in his house.

He promised himself that on his return to his home village of St.Neot on the southern slopes of Bodmin Moor, he would try to form a local choir with the aim of singing carols and traditional songs in and around the village. The first meeting took place at his home, the old Mine Captain's house at Carnglaze, a slate mine in the Loveny River valley. (The choir still has two members who were at that first meeting!)

Eventually the choir gave it's first concert in the Autumn of 1972 at Bolventor Chapel, close to the Jamaica Inn, high on Bodmin Moor. It was at this concert that a young Cornish woman, Elizabeth Tamblyn, appeared as accompanist to a guest soloist, shortly afterwards she became accompanist to the choir itself. 'Liz' remained as the choir's accompanist for the next thirty years finally retiring in 2002.
