The choir was formed by Alan Pascoe in the autumn of 1971. The idea was born when the aircraft carrier HMS Bulwark visited North Borneo in 1963 and Alan was inspired by the singing of Cornishmen of all ranks at a party in his house.
He promised himself that on his return to his home village of St.Neot on the southern slopes of Bodmin Moor, he would try to form a local choir with the aim of singing carols and traditional songs in and around the village. The first meeting took place at his home, the old Mine Captain's house at Carnglaze, a slate mine in the Loveny River valley. (The choir still has two members who were at that first meeting!)
Eventually the choir gave it's first concert in the Autumn of 1972 at Bolventor Chapel, close to the Jamaica Inn, high on Bodmin Moor. It was at this concert that a young Cornish woman, Elizabeth Tamblyn, appeared as accompanist to a guest soloist, shortly afterwards she became accompanist to the choir itself. 'Liz' remained as the choir's accompanist for the next thirty years finally retiring in 2002.
