Charity Concert on behalf of WIRED Cornwall

On Saturday 31st October in the 14th century Kenwyn parish Church Loveny Male Voice Choir and their guest soloists Maggie Holden and Rebekah Scamp gave a concert. The proceeds were in aid of Wired Cornwall stroke and brain injury appeal. It was good to see this very worthy charity given strong support with a full Church.

The MC for the evening was John Ead one of Loveny’s own, the choir are very lucky to have a very able compere in their midst, with his great sense of humour he connects brilliantly with the audience.

In the first half of the concert Maggie Holden sang I know that my Redeemer Liveth written by the great composer Handel and Amazing Grace by John Newton, in the second half she sang Climb Every Mountain by Rodgers and Hammerstein and Can’t Help Loving that Man of Mine from Show Boat. Maggie is a very talented soprano with a wonderful voice. She sings regularly with Loveny and other choirs and is very popular with audiences. She does a lot of work for charities and in particular works with an African charity which has been to visit.

Rebekah Scamp is an eighteen-year-old soprano in her final year at Truro College studying music and drama. She sings with the Duchy Opera, the National Youth Choir of Great Britain and the Cornish Youth Chamber Choir. Rebekah sang Nella Fantasia in Italian by Morricone and Ferrau and O Del Mio Dolce Ador , both of which she sang beautifully, she has a bright future, Loveny wish her the very best with her future career.

Loveny under the direction of their MD Richard Braebrook and were accompanied on the keyboard by Clive Ellison a very talented pianist. Loveny would like to thank Clive for standing for their own pianist unable to attend due to family illness. Richard made sure Loveny sang a varied and entertaining mix of music, the concert was a great success judging by the rapturous applause given to the soloist and choir throughout.

At the end of the concert everyone was invited to the afterglow at The Old Plough at Shortlanesend Loveny would like to thank the Landlords for their hospitality.

Loveny’s next concerts are back to back on Saturday 21st November a joint concert with Treverva Male Voice Choir at All Saints Church Falmouth and Sunday 22nd November at The Wharf at Tavistock with Vocal Harem Choir.
