Busy Weekend

Loveny Male Voice Choir had a busy weekend 21st and 22nd November, first on the Saturday, they were guests of Treverva Male Voice Choir at Falmouth’s All Saints Church. The Church has got really good acoustic’s and is a pleasure to sing in it.

The concert was in aid of The Macmillan Cove Appeal. The centre is at the Royal Cornwall Hospital and means that no one going through cancer treatment in Cornwall have to do it alone, a very worthy charity.

Treverva’s MD Roger Pinset arranged several of their songs in particular Keep the Home Fires Burning, songs from the second world war during which potently the exhortation as said at the cenotaph and all around the UK on Remembrance Sunday, was said by Norman Hyde who had served in the Royal Navy during WW2.

Loveny under the direction of their Deputy Conductor Stuart Reeves sang for example the dynamic Alexanders Ragtime Band, which was one of the songs they had sung earlier this year at the International Male Voice Choral Festival in the Hall for Cornwall where they won the Stithians Cup.

Both Choirs sang a broad selection of music both modern and traditional and got rapturous applause throughout the concert.

On Sunday Loveny were guests of Vocal Harem a mixed choir mostly ladies with some men based in Tavistock, the venue was Tavistock’s Wharf Theatre. This time all monies raised went to the Red Cross earmarked for the refugee camps in Syria.

Rosemary Turner an old friend of Loveny and a talented soprano in her own right, conducted Vocal harem in a sparkling performance of traditional and modern songs with a very funny spoof on the Twelve Days after Christmas. They ended with a selection of eight Roger and Hammerstein songs.

Loveny again directed by their Deputy Conductor Stuart Reeves lived up to their reputation gave an entertaining performance judging by the enthusiastic applause from the audience.

Loveny would like to congratulate Stuart for his first two solo occasions conducting the choir and to Colin Arthur for conducting the choir singing Steal Away when Stuart sang the solo part.

Loveny’s next concert is their annual Christmas Concert with St Neot school children, the soloist will be Maggie Holden and Rosemary Turner. The concert will be on Thursday 17th December at 7pm.
