St Petrocs Church, Bodmin
Loveny Male Voice Choir always like to support good causes, so it was on Saturday 30th April Loveny gave a concert in Bodmin Parish Church of St Petrocs. The concert was in aid of roof restoration fund for Lanhydrock Parish of St Hydroc. What made it really worthwhile was the tremendous support given by the public.
The MC for the evening was John Ead a larger than life character who is from Bodmin and recalled his time as a choir boy in St Petrocs and in his unique way kept the audience entertained throughout the concert.
Loveny sang an interesting mix of songs such as Bring Him Home from Les Meserables by Boubil and Schonberg this arrangement was by Nick Hart Loveny’s President past MD and Cornish Bard. The melodic Tibyay Payon a Slavonic Orthodox Liturgy, sung A cappella. From that to the dynamic Alexanders Ragtime Band by Irving Berlin, to the big classic The Creation. The Choir was jointly conducted by Stuart Reeves and Colin Arthur and their accompanist was Heather Taylor.
The guest soloists were Rosemary Turner and Maggie Holden old friends of the choir. In the first half of the concert Maggie sang the beautiful Love Changes Everything by Andrew Lloyd Webber, then they sang a duet together the aria Flower Duet by Lakme, Delibe. In the second half Rosemary sang what she described as her favourite love song My Love Is Like A Red Red Rose by Robby Burns. Rosemary and Maggie finished by singing the highly amusing Cat Duet by Rossini.
The concert concluded with members of the audience being invited to join the choir in singing the great Welsh hymn Gwahaddiad. A great evening was had by One and All and the appreciation of the audience was reflected in the hearty applause they gave throughout the concert.
Loveny’s next concert is on Saturday 14th May at Tywardreath Parish Church at 730pm. The soloist is Rebekah Scamp.
