Blooming Marvellous St Neot
The opening concert for the St Neot Flower and Arts Festival took place in St Neot Parish Church on Thursday evening 24th August. The theme for the festival is 'The Rhythm of Life', and amidst magnificent floral displays and locally produced works of art, we sang a varied repertoire to a packed church, with both our MD Marcus Alleyne and Deputy MD Colin Arthur taking turns at the podium. All proceeds were in aid of St Neot Church and St Neot Chapel.
Our Guest Soloist for the evening was the multi talented Samantha Rowe, who has performed with us once previously, at Kenwyn in Truro, on a truly foul evening last November whilst Cornwall was being battered by storm 'Angus'. Samantha, who lives locally, plays the piano, and is the Principal Flautist for the Cornwall Wind Orchestra Under 18's. Many of us were unaware that Samantha is also a Classical Singer, but in addition to two brilliantly performed sets on her Flute, we were also delighted to be introduced to her beautiful singing voice.
Thank you Samantha from all of us, we hope that you will join us again in the near future.....and please do remember us when you become famous! Many thanks also to her Accompanist for the evening, and old friend of Loveny, Chris Howarth.
After the interval, our very own Roger James treated us all to a rib tickling recitation....'Drastic Measures' by his favourite Cornish Poet, David Prowse.
Space was at a premium with so many incredible displays adorning the church, the Choir had a very good turnout, and we all had to keep in 'close formation' to avoid disturbing them. As we were told by our Marshall Dave whilst assembling outside, we were 'secondary' to the displays, and under no circumstances were we to upset them in any way.
After the concert, the Choir retired to the Village Hall to enjoy a pasty and Saffron cake supper provided for us by the village Ladies, followed by an Afterglow sing in the Institute bar. Thank you Ladies!
Our thanks to Marcus who having returned early from his holiday, took the 'baton' for his first formal concert with us, to Colin, Roger and MC John Ead, and finally to Ann Fleet for stepping in at short notice to accompany the Choir.
Our next concert is in Cardinham Church on Saturday September 30th, we hope you can join us there at 7.30pm. From next Thursday our new MD has something up his sleeve....new music to learn no doubt....but he won't tell us about it just yet!
