St Meubred's Church Cardinham
Our first concert for a while, and what a joy to share it with the Ladies of the 'Millpool Chorale'.
Though the weather was poor, it did not deter a large audience joining us in the beautiful St Meubred's Church in Cardinham, for an evening of varied and entertaining music.
Directed by our new MD Marcus Alleyne, Loveny began proceedings by singing our first set of four songs, 'With a voice of singing', The song of Cornwall (with Soloist Andrew Williams), 'Gwahoddiad', and 'American Trilogy'. Our Accompanist Suzanne Brodie was unfortunately ill, and we are very grateful that Chris Howarth was able to stand in for the evening.
Under the baton of Jenny Simmons the MD of Millpool Chorale, and Accompanied by Rosemary Heard, the Millpool Ladies then provided us with a captivating performance of 'The Shoop Shoop Song', 'What a Wonderful World' and a South African song, 'We are Marching'. Loveny then completed the first half of the evening with 'Softly as I Leave You', 'Let the Lower Lights be Burning', The Rose' and 'Tibyay Payom'.
After the interval, our very own Roger James amused us again with one his wonderful recitations from the stable of Cornish Poet David Prowse, on this occasion entitled 'The Salesman'.
Millpool Chorale continued to delight us all with Abba's 'Thank You for the Music', 'I watch the Sunrise', and finally 'Da Doo Ron Ron' the Phil Spector classic. Our final set of four songs, 'African Prayer', 'Alexander's Ragtime Band', 'Ride the Chariot' (with Soloist Colin Arthur), and 'Cornwall My Home', an arrangement by good friend of Loveny Mike Jones, brought a pleasant evening to a close.
A big thank you to Jenny and Rosemary, Marcus and Chris, Roger...and not least our MC John Ead. All proceeds for the evening were in aid of the Church Funds.
Refreshments had been provided by the Parishioners just a short walk away in the Village Hall, where as always...fed and watered...a few more songs were sung! Thank you Ladies for a wonderful spread.
Our next concert will be on Saturday 21st October at 7.00 pm. This will be our 'Gala Concert', and as last year will be in Liskeard Public Rooms, but our guests on this occasion will be the The Bodmin Town Band. So, this promises to be a wonderful evening of music and song, please make a note in your diary and join us there !
