Lanhydrock, Andy Wood remembered.
On Sunday 12th November we gave a 'Concert and Cornish' evening at Lanhydrock Hotel and Golf Club, to honour Andy Wood, a Bodmin man known to many of us as the larger than life 'Woodsy'. To a packed room, the Choir reprised much of our Gala Concert programme to an appreciative audience who had assembled to remember Andy and support the charity dearest to him, Mount Edgcumbe Hospice. Our very own Roger James also gave two recitations in the first part of the programme, and two in the second part; in the convivial surroundings these went down rather well !

As well as remembering Andy, the purpose of the evening was to raise funds for Mount Edgcumbe Hospice. In the Interval our MC John Ead was asked to wield the gavel for an auction of a number of valuable items that had been donated, including a three night stay in the Scillies, fine wines and whisky's, a dinner for four and a Ping Golf bag. Together with a considerable raffle table, the evening raised well over £3,000, a magnificent sum for a great cause.
After the traditional Cornish fare of Pasty, Saffron Cake and Jam and Cream Scones had been served, the Choir were sufficiently refreshed to follow on with an 'afterglow' sing. As lyric sheets had been handed out with the programme, many of the audience joined in the fun. It was a great evening, and I am sure that Andy would be very proud of what was achieved by his family and friends, in his memory.
Many thanks to our MD Marcus Alleyne and Accompanist Suzanne Brodie who were superb as always, to Roger James (hilarious on a good day....but excelled to the point of bringing some to tears this time), and our MC John Ead. Thanks also to Lanhydrock Hotel for looking after our needs and facilitating this event.
Our next concert is the annual 'Christmas Concert' in St Neot Parish Church on Thursday 14th December with our wonderful Guests Maggie Holden and Rosemary Turner.
