That was 2017

Most of us will by now have left our Christmas celebrations behind us, and will be looking forward to the new year with Loveny, relishing the challenges that our MD Marcus Alleyne has given us prior notice of, learning new additions to our repertoire that will bring out the best of the Loveny sound when we commence with our concerts in April.

The last time we met was at our final practice of the year on Thursday 21st, where after a short session in the hall with Colin and Mike Jones, we adjourned to the bar to sing carols with our Ladies and Friends, and enjoy a supper brought in by all of us to share. The occasion was graced by a delicious and beautifully decorated cake supplied by Malcolm Barnecutts bakery, made by Jo, and Lynda (Bray), many thanks to you all.

So that was 2017, let us briefly review what happened to us during the year....

  • We sang formally as a full choir at 18 venues as diverse as Gloucester Cathedral, Monmouth Bridges Centre, various churches in Cornwall and Devon, on Padstow Quay, and on the beach at Holywell.

  • We sang informally at 8 venues, from Bodmin's St Pirans Day parade, Bourton on the Water whilst on tour, in the Tolmen Centre in Constantine, to various care homes in Bodmin and Liskeard; not to mention all those afterglows!

  • Our new MD, Marcus Alleyne joined us on August 3rd, and his methods, presence and enthusiasm caught our attention from the very first time he took us for practice! We look forward to exciting times ahead!

  • Our new Accompanist Suzanne Brodie joined us on August 17th; her abilities and instinctive responsiveness to our MD were immediately evident, as is her lovely nature and good humour, which are very much appreciated by us all.

  • Though it was a good year for us, we were deeply saddened by the passing of firstly Lynn Evans, and later in the year, Mike Preston, who were both true Loveny stalwarts, and very much missed by us all.

2018 beckons, and we return to practice on Thursday January 4th...if anyone reading this is considering joining our choir, there is no better time to do it as we commence the challenging but very enjoyable task of learning new songs. We look forward to welcoming you!
