Men of Cornwall and Wales meet in fellowship
Updated: Oct 7, 2019
St Neot church was the venue for a joint concert on Saturday 5th October, when we were excited to play hosts to Chepstow Male Voice Choir. Arranged for some time, Chepstow were on tour, based in Looe, and would go on to sing in one of our favourite venues the following afternoon, Looe Lifeboat Station.
We had a superb evening, some great traditional Welsh music alongside more contemporary songs, including 'Danny Boy' with beautifully played flute interludes by our Accompanist Mel Farley. it made for a truly entertaining evening. Having different arrangements of popular music makes life difficult when trying to organise 'joint' singing, however common ground was found to allow the power of combined voices for 'Morte Christi' and the finale, 'American Trilogy', which rattled the timbers somewhat! In the interest of equality, the former was directed by Chepstow's talented team, MD Ian Russell and Accompanists Kirsten Watson and Rosemarie Lewis. Our favourite 'Elvis' number was directed by our own Marcus Alleyne and accompanied by Mel.
Post concert, we retired to the Village Hall for our afterglow. Loveny has a history of looking after its guests and this night was no exception. Our Ladies had put on a fabulous spread for us all, we and our guests thoroughly enjoyed it and the obligatory singing afterwards. It was a pleasure to meet up and sing with Chepstow MVC, and we very much hope to meet again in the not too distant future. A huge thanks to the Ladies who were kept busy throughout, and afterwards clearing up, to Marcus and Mel for a great performance yet again, to David Michael for hauling the trailer and staging, and Owain and Glyn for getting the music kit into place.
It has been a very busy time for us, and there is no let up yet. Next Saturday 12th October we are guests of the 'Rock Choir' in All Saints Church, Falmouth. As Marcus is also MD of the Rock Choir...he will be having a very busy evening! The next concert in our locality is on November 2nd in Liskeard Public Hall, with Champagne Cornwall Chorus, we would love you to join us then!
